Letter Regarding the Laicization of Dale Fushek

Dear Friends in Ministry,

As we enter into this Lenten season I pray this letter finds you well. Thanks for all you do for teens.

I am writing to let you know some recent news regarding one of Life Teen’s founders. In 2009, Dale Fushek incurred the censure of excommunication because he chose to be in schism with the Catholic Church by establishing and leading an opposing ecclesial community known to the public as the Praise and Worship Center.

Today the Diocese of Phoenix informed me that Dale Fushek has now been officially laicized. The Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith dismissed Dale Fushek from his clerical state following an investigation. Pope Benedict XVI ordered the dismissal. Dale Fushek is no longer to be referred to as “Father,” “Reverend” or “Monsignor.” Additional information regarding the laicization is available at www.diocesephoenix.org.

Though it has been over five years since he has been involved with the movement of Life Teen, the media continues to associate Dale Fushek with Life Teen. While we continue to pray for him, the movement of Life Teen is in full support of Pope Benedict XVI, Bishop Olmsted and the Diocese of Phoenix in this matter. We are thankful to Bishop Olmsted for his continued support and guidance over the past few years. Life Teen faithfully and enthusiastically serves the Roman Catholic Church in complete obedience to the Magisterium and strict fidelity to Church teachings.

During the “Year for Priests,” we affirm and pray for all priests who are joyfully serving the young Church across the world. As a movement, Life Teen continues to work to promote holy vocations and uphold the sanctity of the priesthood. Through the intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary, we continue to pray for your ministry with teens. We thank our Life Teen family around the world as we seek to lead teenagers and their families closer to Christ in communion with the Roman Catholic Church.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. May we all stay focused on Christ!

Peace,
